NCC To Sponsor Skye Camanachd's Shockie MacLennan

Northern California Camanachd will sponsor Skye Camanachd's Jonathon "Shockie" MacLennan for the forthcoming Shinty-Hurling Under-21 International. The match, to be played in Ennis, Ireland on Friday 26 October 2012, is part of the second leg of the home and home Shinty-Hurling series. MacLennan has been the captain of the Skye 1st team in 2012, a season which has seen the Islanders play well and challenge for the North 1 title.

"This sponsorship came out of the ongoing relationship between Skye and Northern California shinty clubs," NCC's Michael Bentley explained. "I ran into both Shockie MacLennan and Neil MacVicar at the International training, and when I heard about the sponsorship opportunity it sounded like a fun way that we could help to support the Shinty-Hurling event and our Skye friends."

NCC co-founder Bentley has recently returned from Scotland where he completed his UKCC1 Shinty qualification, becoming the first coach outside the UK with such a certification. As part of the trip Bentley also attended the Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting between Beauly and Skye Camanachd, took part in a weekly training session in Portree, and also served as a helper at two training sessions for the Scotland Shinty squads.

"I enjoyed seeing the intensity of the preparation at the Scotland squad sessions, from fitness work to skills drills and analysis. I am very curious to see how these elements are carried through to the International matches - I only wish it was easier for us to attend in person!"

The Camanachd Association is once again offering the unique opportunity of sponsoring individual Scotland players for the International - a list of sponsors and other info can be found here.
