First US Certified Shinty Coach

Michael Bentley became the first US Shinty coach to be certified by the Camanachd Association. Bentley, one of the co-founders of Northern California Camanachd, attended the Argyll & Bute Sports Coaching Programme that took place on the 5 & 6 of February in Oban.

"It was a unique opportunity to take the Foundation Coaching course, aimed specifically at coaching youth and beginners which is perfect for our current mission here in the US," Bentley said upon his return home. "Graham Cormack (CA Coaching & Performance Manager), Darren Reid (Shinty Development Officer for Argyll and Bute), and Fraser Inglis (Oban & Kingussie great), as well as the other coaching candidates, provided a great learning environment and I came away more keenly aware of my responsibilities as a coach and better equipped to improve my performance going forward."

Bentley also received certification as a Foundation level referee during his visit, and plans to pass along this training to other US players and officials.
