Challenge Match & AGM Bring NCC Season to a Close

The California Camanachd season came to a close this past Sunday with the 8th Annual Challenge Match and the Annual General Meeting.

The match, played in off-again/on-again rain, pitted a North Bay side, centered around the North Bay Rovers roster, against a South Bay side centered around the South Bay Bears roster. The San Mateo Hooligan players were split between the two teams. This North v South match-up harkened back to the very first Challenge Match played in 2003 which pitted the Santa Rosa contingent against a South Bay select side.

Good skills were on display from both teams during the four 'halves' of the match. The North Bay jumped out to an early lead with a brace of goals from Michael Bentley. A third score came from a Rob Wilson miracle end-line pass across the goal mouth for a Travis Miranda tip-in. The South Bay side managed to claw back into the match, shoring up the defense and putting a lot of pressure on the Northerners goal. In the end Bentley completed his hat-trick and the North Bay side held out for a 5-3 win.

After the match the club retired to the Swingin Door for refreshments and the AGM. The club made plans to celebrate their 10th anniversary in 2011 with an expanded league schedule and a trip to Scotland, amongst other projects and events (MRB 11/9/2010)
