Blairgowrie and Musselburgh, Scotland |
The NCCC celebrated it's fifth year by organizing a visit to Scotland! We participated in the Blairgowrie Highland Games on September 4th playing three demonstration matches against a Tayforth side that lead South Division One for much the year. On Monday September 5th we visited Musselburgh and joined in for the inaugural Levenhall Sixes tournament, which included Edinburgh East Lothian, the Edinburgh University Women's side, and a young Aberdour team. The NCCC side managed to place third out of the four teams with Edinburgh East Lothian taking top honours on the day.
We enjoyed our visit immensely and were shown fantastic hospitality from everyone we met. We learned a lot in our matches, and both days we found ourselves improving with each game. It was nice to discover that we were, in fact, playing shinty after all! An interesting note, the Edinburgh University Women's team went on to play in the Women's Camanachd Cup the weekend after the Levenhall Sixes, and though they could not defeat the Glengarry side they accomplished a lot in their 2005 season... congrats! |
